Adding a garden office to a property can often make it easier to sell, one industry expert observed on Wednesday (June 30th).

David Grievson, managing director of property development business Puddlestone, explained that an attractive shed tends to curry favour with buyers in the current financial climate.

"In some cases it can make properties easier to sell," he said.

"The new trend for this is indicative of the state of the economy and a lack of disposable income."

Mr Grievson also urged homeowners to ensure they check with their council that they are allowed to build a garden office to avoid the disappointment of being ordered to take it down.

This was a fate suffered last August by London mayor Boris Johnson, who was forced to remove a wooden shed he built on the balcony of his Islington home following complaints to the local council.

Meanwhile, the winner of the UK 'Shed of the Year' event will be announced during Shed Week, which commences on Monday (July 5th).
