Garden office owners have been advised that rich colour palettes are the top interior design trends of the moment.

This is according to Hannah Barnes from Hannah Barnes Designs, who noted that "deep aubergines, luxurious midnight blues and crisp shades of teal" are the particular hot tickets for this season.

Metallic accessories can also be used to break up matt, flat colours, she said, and spruce up any interior, including outdoor buildings.

Other top tips from the designer included swapping drab cushions used year-in, year-out for the summer house and investing in copper shades, which will contrast with purple and blues.

"Styled storage will be a big trend in 2011, with a slight throwback to retro curves, large handles and slim-legged furniture," she added.

"Rich walnuts and rustic textures will bring us something different from the smooth glossy coloured surfaces of previous years."

Her comments come after interior designer Adrienne Chinn said that there has also been a resurgence of interest in the designs of the '50s, '60s and '70s when it comes to soft furnishings.
