British gardeners show appetite for eggs

The growing trend towards adopting the 'Good Life' in Britain is behind the decision of Dobbies to start selling hens.
With chicken coops established in Tesco-owned company's list of the 20 best-selling items, the garden centre chain has decided to offer birds to go inside them.
Chicken breeds including Isa Brown, Light Sussex, Corder Valley Rangers, Bluebells and Black Rocks will be up for grabs, with prices ranging from £25 to £30, the Daily Mail reports.
"Over the past two years, more and more Brits have started growing their own fruit and vegetables and the next step in the consumer return to the 'Good Life' seems to be growing their own legs," Dobbies buying director Susan MacDonald commented.
"Families definitely seem to be turning their back gardens into cocoons of self-sufficiency."
Ms MacDonald was referencing the 1970s BBC TV programme starring Richard Briers, Felicity Kendall, Penelope Keith and Paul Eddington which charted a couple's attempts to lead an entirely sustainable way of life.
