Enthusiasm and patience needed to design a garden
» 8th February 2010 «
All Brits need to ensure their garden design project is a success is enthusiasm and patience, it has been claimed.
According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), if people have these two virtues then anything is possible in their green space.
"It's a good idea to read as many gardening books and magazines as you can, to familiarise yourself with plants that you may have heard of," the organisation explained.
It added that visiting flower shows and garden attractions can also be beneficial as these are great places to pick up tips and inspiration.
Another suggestion is that garden owners get to know their soil and remove any rubble and builders' sand to ensure the earth is as hospitable as possible for new additions.
It may also be useful to check whether the soil is acidic, neutral or alkaline before planting begins.
Meanwhile, the RHS recently suggested that Brits could enjoy a stroll around a garden attraction as a St Valentine's Day excursion.
