Gardening organisation names new president

Brits with a love for their gardens may recognise the new president of conservation charity Plant Heritage.
According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), the organisation has named TV expert Alan Titchmarsh as the man to succeed the late Robin Compton, who died in 2009 after 20 years of service.
Titchmarsh, who is also a vice-president at the RHS, may be able to use his celebrity status to help the organisation's cause - to protect plant life for the enjoyment of current gardeners and those of the future.
He explained that he is looking forward to helping the charity carry out its important work.
Plant Heritage chairman Professor Michael Alder said: "Alan has an extraordinary ability to reach out to people from all walks of life and share with them his passion for plants and gardens."
In other news, the RHS is celebrating the launch of its new book How To Grow Practically Anything by granting visitors access to a number of private gardens in London on Monday (May 3rd).
