Brits planning to create a beautiful garden area in time for summer have been given some advice from an expert organisation.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) recently published tips that should keep growers busy throughout the month of May, when weather traditionally starts to warm up in most parts of the country.

It is worth bearing in mind that the long and cold winter could mean that there are a few late frosts, meaning that tender plants might need some extra protection.

Meanwhile, eco-conscious growers might be interested in researching how to efficiently recycle water for use as irrigation in the garden.

This not only protects the environment, but can be very useful in the hot summer months when hosepipe bans may be put in place.

Gardeners should be sure to keep on top of their weeding duties in order to allow other species to flourish.

They should also be aware of temperatures and open greenhouse vents and doors on hotter days.

The lawn should be mowed once per week and those planning to trim hedges should ensure that there are no birds nesting in them.

Meanwhile, those who are planning a complete revamp of their garden could head to the Grand Designs Live show in London, where they may find inspiration.
