Eco-friendly owners of garden offices might benefit from installing LED lights in their workspace, based on comments made by one architect.

George Clarke, speaking at the Ideal Home Show in London's Earl's Court, noted that the devices are significantly more efficient than old lightbulbs.

He explained that the new illumination technology is 80 per cent more efficient and lasts between six and eight years.

Mr Clarke noted that with older bulbs, the ratio of light to heat produced was "ridiculous".

"With the old lightbulbs, 90 per cent of the energy they produced was coming out as heat … LEDs are absolutely brilliant," he commented.

Those hoping to create a calmer atmosphere in their garden office or summer house might want to consider improving the feng shui of the space.

According to Sarah McAllister, director of Feng Shui Agency & School of Chue Feng Shui, this can impact on overall luck and energy levels in life.
