Summer house enthusiasts flock to annual Birmingham event
» 7th July 2010 «
Gardening fans turned out in force at a popular annual event in Birmingham last month, it has been confirmed.
Over 105,000 people arrived at the NEC Arena for this year's BBC Gardeners' World Live event, underlining the fact that Britons remain keen to get tips for their summer houses.
This compares to a total of 104,052 attendees at the 2009 event, although the final figure will be audited within six months, according to a spokesman for BBC Haymarket exhibitions.
Stephen Bennett, shows director at the Royal Horticultural Society, expressed his satisfaction at the level of interest generated by the latest instalment of the show.
"From our point of view we were pleased with the visitor volumes and the exhibitors we look after all had a good show so it has turned out really well for us," he told Horticulture Week.
"I think the numbers have held up really well at Gardeners' World Live and it's comparable to some of the best years that that show has had so it's definitely a good result."
Girlguiding Staffordshire won the Best in Show award in the Show Garden category at this year's BBC Gardeners' World Live.
