Brits planning on renovating their garden this year may wish to head to Monmouth, where they can watch a team of volunteers rebuilding a city centre green space.
The secret garden once hosted Lord Nelson as he took tea with his lover Lady Hamilton and her husband Sir William, according to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
However, years of neglect have seen it fall into disrepair and disappear from the knowledge of many local residents.
The site is completely walled in and can only be accessed by a three-metre tunnel, meaning that while it is protected from city life, it is difficult to find for those who do not know where to look.
A group of volunteers plan to restore the garden to its former glory over the summer and are inviting interested parties to survey their work on any Wednesday until September.
They have drawn up Georgian-style planting plans and intend to rebuild the 19th century promenade pathways and hollow hypocaust walls, which once heated the garden's fruit trees.
Meanwhile, the RHS has revealed that English oak trees are under threat from a new infection.
