An art collector is hoping to build a log cabin where he can live and display his array of paintings and prints.

Pig farmer David Pike used to live in a period farmhouse with his partner Janice and children, but was forced to sell the property after his wife died a number of years ago, BBC News revealed.

However, he retained some of the land, where he has been living in a caravan and building his art collection while he tends to his swine.

The purchases he makes are financed through an interest-free loan scheme set up by the Arts Council, which has helped 12,500 people buy pieces that would have otherwise been unaffordable.

Mr Pike explained that his favourite piece is a painting by Peter Howsen, which he feels reflects his own intensity and gentle nature.
