Bolivian prisoner enjoys barbecue in cell
» 19th March 2010 «
While many Brits may dream of kitting out their garden with a barbecue, sauna and sports equipment, it has emerged that a South American prisoner has all of these things in his cell.
Former general Luis Garcia Meza is serving a 30-year term for abuses during his time as one of Bolivia's military rulers during the 1980s.
However, it was recently revealed that the 81-year-old is living in a cell in the country's Chonchocoro high security prison which would make the average garden owner green with envy.
The prisoner has been enjoying the use of a private gym, sauna, barbecue grill, dining room and table tennis equipment.
A recent turf war at the prison, which resulted in the governor being sacked, brought General Garcia Meza's lavish lifestyle to light.
The fighting allegedly involved a shooting and a grenade attack, perhaps showing that life in the jail is not so sweet for every inmate.
Meanwhile, Garden XL recently highlighted the Napoleon BBQ range of outdoor cooking equipment as possible additions to the ideal green space.
