Gardeners urged to participate in Birdwatch Survey

Gardeners and nature lovers are being encouraged to take part in the Family Garden Birdwatch Survey.

Organised by the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) and the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), families are being urged to get bird-watching and report their sightings, the BBC reported.

A cosy log cabin or summer house could be the ideal place from which to spot some rare avian varieties. Families can record birds in their own gardens as part of the BTO Garden BirdWatch scheme while visitors to NTS properties can also report sightings for BTO to analyse and record.

"We're trying to encourage people to look at the value of our gardens and to understand how birds are using our gardens especially the exotic flora," commented Melissa Simpson, gardens advisor for NTS.

Meanwhile, the BTO recently reported that the number of Blue Tits visiting garden bird feeders has declined by 42 per cent in the last 40 years.
