Homeowners want to bring the outside in this year

Homeowners are increasingly seeking to adopt nature-inspired looks inside their properties, an industry specialist has said.

Simon Errill, managing director at Stonehouse Tiles, observed that more and more people are attempting to create rustic, comforting spaces.

"Using natural materials in the home, such as wood, stone and wool, are on-trend as consumers look to bring the outside in this year, creating a more earthy environment," he added.

The desire to create homely, natural settings has also prompted a growing number of people to turn to log cabins and other garden buildings when updating their properties. Mr Errill advised renovating homeowners to add mosaic patterns in their tiling so as to create focal points within rooms.

His comments come after Daily Telegraph writer Katrina Burroughs noted that paint and fabric manufacturers are seeking to challenge the UK's love of minimal neutral colour schemes with "new palettes" which offer "brazen colour".
