Homeowners want to feel secure in their surroundings, says expert

People currently want to feel secure in their surroundings when it comes to their home designs, an expert has said.
Simon Hamilton, director of interiors consultancy Simon Hamilton and Associates, has set out his views on current trends among renovating property owners.
He observed that people have come through a period of wanting things to be "very pared down and stripped away" and now want places in and around their home that are more reassuring at "a time in which people are unsettled and not sure of the future".
"People want things that are a bit more worn in, and have a bit more heritage," said Mr Hamilton. "Not everything has to be absolutely perfect."
The views may encourage more people to invest in homely and comfortable garden buildings like summer houses and log cabins. Katrina Burroughs of the Daily Telegraph recently claimed that cream, beige, oyster and stone "are still the shades that make up the nation's comfort zone".
