Owners of garden log cabins could take a tip from a new restaurant opening as the trend for al fresco dining takes a unique step. 

Haskin's Garden Centres will open a new restaurant in Southampton, in what is set to become one of the biggest restaurant openings of the year at £2.3 million, the Guardian reports.

Indeed, it will have as many as 460 covers. But it is not the only garden centre to offer gastro dining.

Skye Gyngell's restaurant at Petersham Nurseries in Richmond was presented with a Michelin star this year, while a £2 million redevelopment at Batsford Arboretum and garden centre at Easter is also set to open a new eatery.

While some garden centre restaurants are not as good as others, the news provider highlights the benefits of them, claiming: "Potentially, garden centres offer a unique opportunity to demonstrate field-to-fork seasonal cooking at its vibrant best."

And gardeners themselves could take the trend away with them, entertaining guests in their garden log cabin or summer house, for a unique take on outdoor dining.
