Log cabin to be given new lease of life

» 3rd December 2009 «

A historic log cabin in Utah, US, is to be given a new lease of life at a new site after a chance meeting over a pair of boots.

B&M Boot Repair owner Mark Nicholas and his wife Carole, who reside in Honeyville, Box Elder County, had decided to dismantle the log cabin that had stood on their land for around 150 years, the Tremonton Leader revealed.

Despite a nostalgic urge to keep the disused structure, the couple needed the land to construct a new barn after Rocky Mountain Power paid then to run a new power line through their land, requiring the demolition of several outbuildings.

However, the log cabin, which has previously been used as a home, granary, play house and tack shed, is to be dismantled and restored at a new site after Black Horse Roost Ranch owner Bob Bargar chanced upon it.

The seller of cowboy antiques arrived at the Nicholas' home to get a pair of boots repaired and noticed the log cabin and, recognising its historic value, offered to give it a new lease of life on his own land.

Meanwhile, the Edmonton Journal has revealed that the US town is to erect a Christmas ice sculpture of a forest, a log cabin, a dog and a child building a snowman as part of its festive display.
