Long winter wait almost over for gardeners

» 11th March 2010 «

Those passionate about their garden may be forgiven for chomping at the bit after being kept waiting so long to begin this year's work.

According to BBC Berkshire garden expert Colin Evans, Brits have had to endure a long and harsh winter, with the onset of spring delayed by the cold.

However, after one of the coldest spells in recent history, homeowners could soon be able to begin working on their green spaces.

Mr Evans explained that those wishing to grow potatoes can make a start now by placing seeds on trays on a sunny windowsill.

Once they have started to sprout in late March, it will be time to transplant them into containers or the open ground.

Those who have been left frustrated by the lack of colour in their garden could head to a specialist retailer and pick up some vibrant plants to brighten the place up while waiting on bulbs to bloom, Mr Evans added.

In other news, Castle Hill Middle School recently received a visit from a Royal Horticultural Society expert, who gave pupils tips on growing, the Haverhill Weekly News revealed.ADNFCR-2848-ID-19664463-ADNFCR
