A Midlothian community project has been given the go-ahead and funding to build a large log cabin for public use.

The Loanhead Community Learning Centre achieved planning consent for the log cabin in September and has recently secured a major source of funding, the Midlothian Advertiser revealed.

After having received a grant of £50,000 from WREN - a body responsible for landfill tax funding - the Loanhead Working, Learning and Playing Together Project has also been given £700,000 in extra financial assistance.

The support comes from the Big Lottery fund and the Scottish Government Third Sector Division.

"I am thrilled that [these bodies have combined] to support this unique and innovative project that I am sure will be a fantastic asset for the community of Loanhead and the surrounding areas," manager Irene Hogg told the newspaper.

The facility will accommodate local community groups and provide an extra environment for local schools to utilise.

Meanwhile, Stirling Albion Football Club Supporters' Trust, which is hoping to raise money to buy the club, is set to hold a raffle for a trip to a log cabin in the scenic Trossachs area of Scotland, the Stirling Observer has revealed.
