Mississippi town reopens log cabin attraction

Madison County Historical Society has re-opened a restored antebellum era log cabin attraction in downtown Madison, Mississippi.
The US town is home to the Kemper Residence and its log cabin slave quarters, which the society has pledged to maintain for posterity, the Madison County Eagle revealed.
Restoration on the buildings began a decade ago after the National Trust for Historic Preservation provided the organisation with a grant.
A subsequent fundraising campaign allowed the work to continue and the attraction now offers tours.
The new log cabin section of the site was officially opened by Madison County Board of Supervisors chairman Eddie Dean, who cut the red ribbon on November 15th.
The historical society is now attempting to raise almost $7,000 for reconstruction of the residence's chimney.
Meanwhile, a Missouri man is restoring a log cabin first built in 1902, the South-eastern Missourian reported.
Despite being 84 and suffering from Alzheimer's disease, Bill Beussink is helping his son-in-law work on the century-old oak building.
