New guide to garden chemicals
» 20th April 2010 «
Garden enthusiasts have been given a little help from the government in the form of a new pocket guide.
The information manual relates to the handling of horticultural chemicals and was created by the Health and Safety Executive, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) reported.
Coming in the form of a handy postcard, the Use, Store and Dispose of Garden Chemicals Safely publication aims to educate those with green fingers about how best to deal with such substances.
It comes after a 2007 survey discovered that horticulture enthusiasts often tip chemicals down the drain, dispose of empty containers incorrectly and keep substances for longer than they should.
The RHS is playing a part in the education process by distributing the guides through its Advisory Service and at its numerous flower shows.
Last weekend saw the RHS Cardiff Show take place, while the organisation is set to host its famous Chelsea Flower Show in May.
