Residents dismay at log cabin destruction

Residents of a city in the US are in dismay as the Woodhaven City Council in Michigan, US, has voted unanimously to tear down a log cabin.
The 19th century structure is the oldest building in the city, dating back to before the Civil War, the News Herald reported.
Locals had asked the council to save the log cabin, but it still did not earn enough support to raise money to rescue it.
A decision had been made to destroy the historic structure as restoring it would have cost at least $47,000 (£28,900) after having fallen into a state of disrepair.
Mayor Patricia Odette told the news provider that after decades of neglect, the building now poses a danger to employees who use the log cabin.
However, once dismantled, the logs will be used to build a replica cabin and a plaque will be erected to commemorate the original building.
Garden owners could find that log cabins or other outdoor buildings such as African thatched gazebos can add an attractive feature to their green space.
