Gardeners given greenhouse advice

» 19th April 2010 «

Brits intent on having a successful year in the garden may be interested in advice from one of the country's leading botanic authorities.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), now is the time to increase attention given to crops grown indoors.

It explained that plants growing in greenhouses, conservatories or inside the home are prone to drying out as the weather warms up.

As such, it may be prudent to keep a special eye on hydration levels and the organisation suggested that plants should be checked for watering at least once every few days.

At the first sign of substantial growth, they should also be given a liquid feed to boost nutrient levels.

Meanwhile, now is also a good time to perform a clean-up of garden buildings by sweeping up any debris or fallen compost.

Plants should be cleaned with a damp cloth if they have shiny leaves or a soft brush if they are prickly to help avoid disease.

In other news, the RHS hosted its Cardiff show over the weekend (April 16th to 18th) and is set to hold a number of other events in the coming months.ADNFCR-2848-ID-19729255-ADNFCR
