Log house offers excellent bird watching base

Homeowners across the West Midlands are being encouraged to get bird watching from the comfort of their own gardens.

People in the region have been asked to record the numbers of birds in their garden on January 29th and 30th in order to help with the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds' (RSPB) annual survey, the Birmingham Mail reported.

According to the newspaper, the RSPB is hoping to break last year's record when half a million people got involved.

A warm and cosy garden building such as a log house or garden office could provide an ideal base from which to engage in a bit of bird watching.

"You'll not only be joining the world's biggest wildlife survey, but also contributing to a vital piece of wildlife research," said an RSPB spokeswoman.

Earlier this week, meanwhile, the Scotsman reported on a National Trust survey which found that more than 70 per cent of people believe it is important to spend time in gardens, while over half said it was the most enjoyable thing they did.
