The Royal Horticultural Society has released its Plant Finder 2010 edition - a book that has been published each year since 1987.

Garden enthusiasts in the UK can now buy the new edition of a book that has been used to help growers create beautiful green spaces for more than a century.

First published in 1987, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Plant Finder's 2010 issue hit shelves yesterday (April 12).

The latest version of the publication points gardeners in the direction of where to buy more than 70,000 plants, 3,400 of which are listed for the first time this year.

It has grown in size throughout the decades, with the first issue containing just 22,000 entries.

A lot of work goes in to each new edition of the book, with nurseries around the country polled each September on changes in trends and new additions to their ranges.

The names of each plant are meticulously checked for accuracy by the RHS team - a task that grows in complexity with each passing year, thanks to the new variants that hit the UK market.

Growers who buy the book could also be interested in the new RHS iPhone application, which is designed to provide advice on food growing.
