New director-general for horticulture society
» 14th June 2010 «
Gordon Seabright is to pass on the reins of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) after nine months as acting director-general.
Budget Holidays founder Sue Biggs will take up the role, bringing with her three decades of leisure industry experience, as well as a love of plants and flowers.
She spent 25 years at Kuoni, becoming the first female and first non-Swiss to be invited to join its board.
The new director-general also went on to become managing director of scheduled business for Thomas Cook.
"[Ms Biggs] brings a wealth of business experience combined with a real love of plants and gardening, and the vision to help us realise the full potential of this marvellous organisation," president Giles Coode-Adams said.
Chair of the appointment committee Elizabeth Banks explained that there had been a high calibre of candidates and that she was sure that Ms Biggs would excel in her new position.
In other news, the RHS recently awarded a Cambridge University gardener its Young Horticulturalist of the Year Award.
