Slough garden could inspire would-be designers
» 9th February 2010 «
Brits considering revamping their garden may wish to pay a visit to a Buckinghamshire horticultural attraction to gain inspiration.
The Stoke Poges Memorial Garden near Slough was recently awarded Grade I status by English Heritage, the Royal Horticultural Society revealed.
It was given the new status after the organisation re-evaluated its importance and decided it merited a higher accolade.
Designed by Edward White in 1930, the gardens feature a formal centre area surrounded by 140 informal family gardens.
White is also known for designing the rock garden at RHS Garden Wisley - an attraction considered by the RHS to be one of the top horticultural sites in the world.
Would-be garden designers may draw inspiration from Stoke Poges' fountains, rose parterres, colonnades, pergolas and rills.
Meanwhile, Garden Wisley is offering a romantic three-course meal on February 13th - a day before St Valentine's Day.
