Brown repays summer house expenses
» 10th December 2009 «
It seems that the appeal of summer houses is not lost on Gordon Brown, who recently repaid cash he spent maintaining his.
Prime Minister Brown was shown to have claimed £500 in expenses for having the summer house repainted at his constituency home in Scotland.
The Labour chief was one of a number of MPs to have been shown up by the publication of expense claims, but has acted to rectify the situation.
His indiscretion was included on the latest batch of expenses to be released, which was less heavily edited than previous lists, many of which were missing large pieces of information.
Mr Brown began claiming for the North Queensferry property just days after Tony Blair announced his decision to resign as prime minister.
He listed it as his second home, when previously a flat in London had taken on that mantle.
Meanwhile, the Press and Journal recently highlighted a property in Inverness-shire, which once played host to Bonnie Prince Charlie as he travelled to the Battle of Culloden.
The home features a "smart octagonal summer house", timber garage, tool shed, wood shed and greenhouse.
