Garden hut owners should consider solar panels
» 10th March 2011 «
Garden hut owners hoping to run a more eco-friendly home and reduce their energy bills have been advised to consider installing solar panels.
Eco-campaigner and TV presenter James Strawbridge noted that the technology is now more efficient than it has ever been.
People with listed homes who might not be permitted to install the devices could find that putting them on a garden hut is the perfect solution, he suggested.
"There's always the option of putting them on a lean-to or even a garden shed … I like to think of it in terms of 'future-proofing'," he commented.
Another measure those hoping to reduce their impact on the environment were urged to consider is creating a wormery, which is compact and can be used for planting herbs.
This comes after Joe Lamp'l said in an article for the Scripps Howard News Service that solar-powered outdoor lighting could be a cheap way to illuminate a patio when entertaining outdoors.
