How to budget for garden revamp
» 11th February 2010 «
Homeowners carrying out work in the garden should set out a tight budget during the planning stage, it has been suggested.
How much cash is available can dictate which materials are used, so it is important to know what you can afford before you start spending, the Royal Horticultural Society advised.
Even if the plan is to pay someone else to do the work, it is important to shop around for materials to ensure you are getting a fair price.
Another tip is to buy materials yourself at the builders' merchant as they will often give discount to those who buy direct - cutting out the commission of the landscape firm.
"Winter is a good time to begin the process of obtaining two or three quotes. This way you will be ahead of the game by the time the good weather arrives in early spring," the organisation said.
Meanwhile, actor Bradley Cooper recently told MTV.com how he once had an ex-girlfriend's garden revamped as a secret St Valentine's Day present.
