Inaugural plant show is a hit with gardening fans

An inaugural display of garden designs in Coventry proved to be a major success, Horticulture Week reports today (July 2nd).
The first-ever Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) National Plant Show took place at Stoneleigh Park this week, with 300 people showing up within the first hour alone.
HTA president Caroline Owen expressed her delight at the turnout, with attendees noting the impressive plant focus and the end-of-season timing of the show.
"Plants are what set us apart so it is important to have a show at this time of year because this is when plants are looking great," she told the news provider.
David Gwyther, director general of the HTA, also explained that the event was an opportunity to show that the industry can move forward in the tough economic climate.
"The industry absolutely must work together by removing some of the unnecessary costs of doing business," he said.
"This event shows we can do that without spending huge amounts of money."
Meanwhile, the HTA has also warned the government that a hosepipe ban in the north-west of England could have a detrimental effect on gardens in the region.
