March tips for green-fingered garden hut owners
» 15th March 2011 «
Garden hut owners who want to use their outdoor space to plant vegetables have been provided with tips by experts from the Eden Project.
Louisa Evans said in an article for the Telegraph that vegetables such as carrots, peas, broad beans and parsnips can be excellent choices in March because they do not mind the cold weather.
Those getting their tools out of the garden hut this month were advised to take a simple approach and only plant vegetables they enjoy eating.
She also highlighted the importance of watering, labelling and protecting newly sown seeds.
Tomato fans who do not want to take up too much space in their backyard with the polants were advised to purchase "ready-to-go plants".
Earlier this month, Constance Craig Smith said in a piece for the Daily Mail that horticulturalists might be able to add some fashionable colour to a vegetable patch by planting purple varieties of old favourites, such as broccoli, carrots and cauliflowers.
