Oxford summer house owners welcome competition judges

» 20th July 2010 «

Judges are currently touring the summer houses and gardens of Oxfordshire to determine the latest winner of a popular annual horticultural competition.

The 22nd instalment of the Oxford in Bloom event got underway yesterday (July 19th) as the assessors embarked on a three-day tour of the region, the Oxford Mail reports.

Chairman Karen Roberts revealed that 60 gardeners are participating in this year's contest, with more than 200 entries submitted across the various categories on offer.

"The number of entries is slightly down this year but some very good competitors have come forward and will be getting ready for the judges' visit," she told the news provider.

"They have been making sure their gardens look their best and I'm sure the rain will have helped."

Flower arranger Lois Allen, who is one of the judges, added that she is considering the "design, colour and neatness" of the entries and that she does not want to see any weeds.

In an article for Get Bracknell last week, Linda Fort suggested that daylilies can add an exotic flavour to summer houses and well-kept gardens.
