Pirate-themed garden shed lands top award
» 5th July 2010 «
A garden enthusiast from Essex has won the Shed of the Year competition for his pirate-themed design.
Reg Miller managed to put 1,250 entrants to the sword to land the honour and get his hands on some treasure in the shape of the £1,000 first prize.
The shed, which Mr Miller named 'The Lady Sarah out of Worthing' in tribute to his partner, features an array of plants, a Koi Carp pond and even a parrot.
"I've spent years working on my shed and to win Shed of the Year 2010 is a real thrill - it's the ultimate accolade for shed owners," he said.
"It's still a work in progress, as I'm constantly adding to my collection of pirate memorabilia and props and the shed is slowly but surely taking over the whole garden."
Mr Miller, who edged out Dominic Jones' second-placed Garden Office and Tim Massey's third-placed Eco Shed, also revealed that he will spend the £1,000 on repairing the decking in his garden.
Last week, the Sun revealed that Tesco is set to sell a huge build-it-yourself garden shed for £9,999.
