Remembrance garden is tailored by the Red Cross

» 26th August 2010 «

The Red Cross has set up its first remembrance garden in England and dedicated it to people missing in conflict.

Located in Nottingham's Arboretum Park, the garden has been planted with a number of special flowers including the "humanity rose", which was bred specifically for the Red Cross, the BBC reported.

A launch event for the garden also involved planting forget-me-not seeds and releasing balloons with messages to loved ones, it was revealed.

Donna Boulton, British Red Cross international tracing and messaging service co-ordinator for Nottingham, commented: "We are holding this ceremony in memory of the tens of thousands of people who are estimated to be missing globally as a result of armed conflict or other situations of violence.

"This is an opportunity for the people of Nottingham to show their concern and support for the families of the missing."

Meanwhile, it was reported last week that a converted summer house set up by Sir Winston Churchill at his family home in Kent has been renovated by the National Trust.
