Summer house owner suffers flooding misery
» 23rd July 2010 «
One summer house owner was left in despair after heavy flooding hit the Perth area of Scotland this week.
The region experienced over an inch-and-a-half (40mm) of rain on Wednesday (July 21st) morning, badly affecting businesses and homes and creating chaos on the roads.
Much of the blame is being placed on Perth and Kinross Council, with some residents claiming that the local authority is aware of drainage problems but has not resolved them.
Roxanne McLaughlin, who lives in a flat in Menzies Court, revealed that she was forced to clear her summer house after seemingly contaminated water managed to get inside it.
"I really don't want to know what was left floating about the water because it looked pretty disgusting," she told the news provider.
"I've been up since 07:30 BST clearing up the mess that was left because I just couldn't face looking at it any more."
Firefighters were forced to use high-velocity pumps to deal with flooding at Atholl Guest House and the defunct Exel restaurant in South Street, according to the Press and Journal.
