Summer house owners witness boom in grow in your own
» 27th September 2010 «
The 'grow your own' industry is experiencing a "real boom" in demand among UK homeowners, an industry expert has said.
Lauren Woodgate, marketing executive at Erin Growing Media, noted that people are growing their own produce in an effort to both save money and become more environmentally friendly.
"If they grow it in their garden then it is organic and they know where it has come from," she said.
Homeowners aiming to reap maximum enjoyment from their gardens may also wish to invest in an attractive summer house or log cabin. According to Ms Woodgate, windowsill herb kits and chilli growing packs have been particularly popular with consumers in recent months.
She claimed that this was partly down to the popularity of eating curries and Thai food in the UK.
British Food Fortnight 2010 is currently taking place across the country and runs until October 3rd.
