Thai garden wins top award at flower show
» 7th July 2010 «
A garden designed to boost the Thai tourist industry has won a major prize at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, it has been confirmed.
The Reflections of Thailand - Sala Rim Nam was built by Elevations Exhibition Design for the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Eva Airways.
Designed by James Clarke, the traditional garden, which is set on a labyrinth of canals, features tropical trees, scented flowers and aromatic herbs grown for home cooking.
The judges were so impressed with the entry that they decided to award it the gold standard in the Best Show Garden category.
Chris Beardshaw, a former winner of the prestigious honour, said Mr Clarke was a deserving victor.
"I am really impressed. There is a great blend here and the finishing is very high quality," he said in an interview with Horticulture Week.
The Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is the brainchild of management consultant Adrian Boyd, who created it through a partnership between Historic Royal Palaces and Network Southeast.
