Duck chooses crazy garden nest

Gardens are often attractive places to live for all manner of wildlife, but one duck may have bitten off more than it can chew at a renowned attraction.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), a mother duck has chosen a hanging basket at its Garden Wisley Plant Centre as its home.

Nicknamed Hoisin by the staff, the duck has laid ten eggs and seems oblivious to the hundreds of visitors that regularly pass by its elevated nest.

Plant Centre manager Nigel Eaton admitted it is the strangest nesting site he has ever seen and noted that employees are concerned for the wellbeing of the chicks.

To protect them against the 8ft fall, workers are set to erect tables with dense foliage to help cushion the impact.

Meanwhile, the RHS has revealed that the government is to pay a compost manufacturer £9 million to stop its peat mining activities at a Cumbrian bog.
