Edinburgh garden reserve inviting rare public viewing

A tiny garden reserve in Edinburgh will open its doors to the public this weekend, it has been confirmed.

Guests at the garden, which is located between Johnston Terrace and the Grassmarket in the city centre, will be able to see frogs, bumblebees, butterflies, grey herons, blue tits and a range of plants and trees.

The reserve is the smallest under the control of the Scottish Wildlife Trust (SWT) and will be welcoming visitors between 10:00 and 16:00 BST on Saturday (June 24th).

Julian Warman, SWT's reserve manager for Edinburgh, said: "The reserve is a great place to spot wildlife and a visit can help inform wildlife gardeners about the best ways and methods to manage a city centre garden to attract wildlife and help it thrive.

"Equally, if you are just passing by, it provides a beautiful setting to relax and enjoy some green surroundings."

Mr Warman also urged locals to make the most of the chance to catch a glimpse of the reserve as everyday access is generally restricted.

The Scottish Wildlife Trust acquired its first reserve in 1966 and now has more than 120 throughout the country.
