Garden-friendly mini-wind turbine unveiled
» 3rd February 2010 «
A new mini-wind turbine that would be ideal for gardens as the warmer weather returns has been launched in Italy.
'Revolutionair', which is the brainchild of Frenchman Philippe Starck, was revealed last week and is set to be offered in two distinct models - rectangular and whisk-shaped.
The former measures 90cm without its support stand and is capable of producing 400W, while the latter measures 1.45m and can provide up to 1kW in power.
"I have always wanted to design an invisible turbine with the goal of making something everyone would want," commented Mr Starck, who is a renowned designer of chic hotels, high-tech lamps and modern furniture.
Pramac, the energy component manufacturer rolling out the turbines in Italy, added that they differ from their larger counterparts as they are "independent from wind direction and can take advantage of turbulence, besides being extremely quiet".
The rectangular design will retail at about €2,500 (£2,185), while the whisk-shaped variety is set to be available at €3,500.
