With the bank holiday looming, Brits may be thinking about improving their garden ahead of the summer months.

Those who wish to do so could see the benefits of heading to a local plant sale, where they will find numerous useful varieties, the Seattle Times claimed.

According to the newspaper, the events also offer a great opportunity to support local businesses as they look to overcome the effects of the financial downturn.

It listed a number of events taking place in Washington state this week, including the King County Master Gardener Foundation Plant Sale and Learning Fair at the University of Washington's Centre for Urban Horticulture.

The Seattle Titlth Edible Plant Sale is also taking place at the Good Shepherd Centre on Saturday and Sunday (May 1st and 2nd).

Horticulture lovers in the UK will not miss out either, with a number of events taking place around the country.

The Royal Horticultural Society is hosting its Great London Garden Trail in celebration of the launch of its new book, How To Grow Practically Anything.
