New director of horticulture for RHS

» 17th May 2010 «

After creating the new position last week, the UK's leading body on gardening has moved quickly to appoint a director of horticulture.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) wasted no time in promoting curator Jim Gardiner to the role and will now hope to tap into his 40 years of experience to take the organisation forward.

Mr Gardiner has spent 22 years of his four decades in the gardening industry working for the RHS.

He explained that he is delighted to have been given the opportunity to share his vast knowledge with colleagues in the UK and beyond.

RHS president Giles Coode-Adams explained that Mr Gardiner will be able to use his experience and stellar reputation to great effect in his new role.

"His appointment to this new post reflects the fact that horticultural excellence sits at the heart of the society's mission to inspire everyone to garden," he said.

Meanwhile, the RHS recently suggested that garden lovers might not have seen the last of this year's frosts.
