Horticulturalists should start to get working on pruning their bush roses and shrubs, advice that might be of use to green-fingered garden gazebo owners.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society, March is the time to get this job done, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Garden gazebo owners who were unable to manage this when it was cold and snowy were urged to get outside and clip their bush roses, honeysuckle and any other plants that need it.

However, those with bay, olives or evergreens - such as acacia - were advised to wait until April before they tackled frost damage.

By doing this, they are likely to miss the worst of the cold weather.

Earlier this month, in an article for the Independent, Anna Pavord said now is the time to start thinking about planting tomatoes.

However, she warned not to be too hasty because the plants hate the frost so it might be advisable to wait until after the coldest weather has passed.
