Soil tips for new gardeners

Garden owners who hope to spruce up their green space this year should first get to know the ground they are working with, it has been claimed.

According to booshplr.com, growers will find it beneficial to have a soil test done in order to establish its strengths and weaknesses.

The examinations, which can be done by local nurseries, are aimed at informing gardeners about which plants are likely to succeed and those that may struggle.

They are also a good way of knowing what to do to improve the soil or prepare it for certain varieties.

Growers might have to add materials to make the earth more acidic or alkaline, depending on what they wish to grow.

Furthermore, the tests are a good way of telling which nutrients are lacking, as they should show levels of nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, sulphur, calcium and magnesium.

In other news, the Royal Horticultural Society is hosting its Chelsea Flower Show this week, where growers will be able to get tips from the experts.
