Style and function important in garden design
» 10th February 2010 «
Brits redesigning their garden should think about the function and style they wish to achieve, it has been claimed.
According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), the layout of a green space is just as important as the plants that are in it.
Rather than over-cramping a garden to fit everything in, homeowners should think about what is important to them and provide enough space for whatever feature it is to be of use.
The RHS gave the example of a terrace or barbeque area, suggesting that enough room should be left to fully enjoy the feature.
Style is just as important and homeowners should choose one that suits their lifestyle.
Those with little time to tend to the garden may opt for a simple layout featuring large amounts of paving, containers, raised beds and evergreens in order to minimise the work required to keep it looking good.
In other news, the RHS recently paid its respects to renowned horticulturalist Hugh Ermen, who sadly passed away at the end of last year.
