West Sussex school provides gazebo

A West Sussex school has ensured that its younger pupils are able to get outside and enjoy the outdoors by providing them with a large gazebo and all-in-one romper suits.

Hassocks Infant School is a recipient of the 2009 Learning Outside the Classroom Award after it took extra steps to allow its youngsters to get out of the building and into the fresh air, the Argus revealed.

Deputy head Sue Roche told the newspaper that the institution subscribes to the adage that with the right clothing "there is no such thing as bad weather".

"It makes a big difference to the children's concentration and attention," she revealed. "We feel that young children need to be active as much as possible."

The hooded suits allow one year group to play outside at a time, while the pupils also benefit from a gazebo, outdoor play area and open-air theatre stage, allowing them to indulge their creative side.

Meanwhile, LEP.co.uk recently revealed that a nursery in Preston has been temporarily saved from tearing down its new gazebo after it emerged that there was an absence of planning permission.
