Woman who lived in gazebo for 5 months
» 4th December 2009 «
While most people use gazebos as shelters from the rain or sun while enjoying time in their garden, a Derby woman found another use for one.
Sharon Simpson is a 35-year-old mother of seven, who moved out of her home with her partner after facing eviction over his behaviour.
She revealed that while her partner's mother was willing to look after her kids, she and he had to find other accommodation.
Avoiding hostels, the couple set up a tent in the middle of Derby's Pentagon Roundabout, which is sheltered by trees.
They lived there for five months, adding a gazebo, a solar-powered shower and even a freeview box and TV powered by old car batteries.
However, Ms Simpson decided to move out of her roundabout accommodation after the leaves fell off the trees, meaning motorists had a full view of her gazebo and tent home.
Following a break-up with her partner, the woman is now living with her sister and has left the "peaceful" roundabout.
Meanwhile, LEP.co.uk recently revealed that a Preston day nursery has been given a reprieve after being told to demolish its new gazebos.
