A garden renovation project at a fire station in Cheshire is helping to support local community aims, it has been revealed.

MP Derek Twigg recently visited the community garden in the grounds of Runcorn Fire Station as part of Parliamentary efforts to support the scheme, the Runcorn & Widnes Weekly News reported.

According to the news outlet, the garden has been developed by local school pupils who have worked to transform the station grounds "from an open grass area into a fully functioning allotment, complete with raised planter beds, paths and compost bins".

The initiative, which was also supported by MP Graham Evans at the official garden opening back in September, is designed to encourage youths to pursue constructive goals and provide a distraction from trouble making and anti-social behaviour.

News of the scheme comes after london-se1.co.uk reported last week that a London police team is using a log cabin as its festive base during the current Cologne Christmas Market.
