A recently painted mural on a garden wall in Southampton is believed to be the work of controversial street artist Banksy.

The graffiti mural shows a child sitting on the ground holding a red balloon which forms part of the phrase "no future" above her.

A photo of the image has since appeared on the artist's website, suggesting it could be genuine. Banksy, a Bristol-based artist known for satirical and politically-inspired paintings, has never revealed his identity.

Speaking to BBC News, local business owner Pauline Hodges said the garden wall mural had attracted many more people to the site.

"We think, as a picture, it's fantastic. A lot of artists like to be different and I think it's his way of saying, look, come on, we need to do something about the future," she said.

Homeowners aiming to spruce up their own gardens could choose to erect a stylish African thatched gazebo or log house. Last week, the Scarborough Evening News reported that a landscaping firm is using Scarborough's seaside heritage as inspiration for a new sensory garden in the town.
