A historical log cabin once owned by an American Civil War veteran is to be reconstructed, according to the Advertiser-Tribune.

The newspaper reports that Miller Cabin will be rebuilt in Seneca County Park District, Ohio, after funds were finally found to carry out the work.

The log cabin was originally given to Civil War veteran Josiah Hedges, who owned it until 1851. It was donated to the park in December 2001 and was dismantled and put into storage soon after that.

Estimates for the cost of reconstruction range between $15,000 and $18,000, but now that a number of donations have been made, the project can start, although more funds are still needed.

Work is set to begin straight away, with wood being cut for the door frames and floor, while advice has been sought from Doug Haubert, who managed the reconstruction of two other log cabins in the area.

Summing up the task ahead, he said: "It's a lot of work. I'm not going to lie to you."   - 26 January 2010
